Swechasebak Dal leader shot dead in Karwan Bazar

Azizur Rahman Mosabbir, a leader of the Jatiyatabadi Swechasebak Dal, was shot dead by assailants in the capital on Wednesday night, police and party officials said.

The shooting occurred at around 8pm. behind the Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in the Karwan Bazar area, where two people were targeted.

Mosabbir, the member secretary of the Swechasebak Dal’s Dhaka North unit, was rushed to BRB Hospital in Panthapath, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (ADC) Fazlul Karim of the DMP’s Tejgaon Division confirmed the matter.

“Two people were shot. Azizur Rahman Mosabbir has died,” he said.

The other victim, Masud Rana, 42, president of the Karwan Bazar Rickshaw Workers and Van Owners Union, was injured and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Abdul Majid Milon, president of the Swechasebak Dal’s Ward-26 unit of Dhaka North City, said the two were having tea at Star Gali in Karwan Bazar around 8pm when several assailants arrived on motorcycles, opened fire indiscriminately, and fled.

Police officers were present at the scene and investigating the incident, Tejgaon Police Station duty officer SI Hafizur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune.

Supporters of the Swechasebak Dal gathered in front of BRB Hospital following reports of the shooting.
